Kitchen Cabinet Painting in Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks Painters specialise in kitchen cabinet painting across the full Sevenoaks district. We work in Swanley, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks town, Otford, Hildenborough, and all surrounding villages.
What we cover:
- Spray-painted and brush-finished cabinet doors
- Solid wood and MDF cabinet fronts
- Drawer fronts and end panels
- Carcass repainting and colour updates
- Kitchen islands and freestanding units
The 1960s and 1970s fitted kitchens found throughout Swanley estates are structurally sound but visually dated. The cabinet doors are often solid timber or MDF with a vinyl wrap or laminate surface. Painting these correctly requires a specialist adhesion primer before any topcoat. Without it, the finish lifts within months.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Services
Some clients choose to paint carcasses and end panels at the same time as the doors. We can include these in the same project. Worktops are not painted as part of a cabinet project. We focus on the door and drawer fronts, the end panels, and any exposed carcass sides visible from the room.
Spray-Painted Doors
Spray application gives a factory-smooth finish that a brush or roller cannot match. It suits both solid wood and MDF doors. We remove or mask each door before spraying and allow full curing time between coats. Swanley homeowners regularly choose this route over full replacement, with results that read as new from across the room.
Solid Wood vs MDF Cabinets
Solid wood doors expand and contract with changes in temperature and humidity. MDF is dimensionally stable but has no grain to key into. Both surfaces require different primers and topcoats. We assess your cabinet material at the site visit and specify the correct paint system before starting.
Colour Selection and Sheen Level
Colour choice and finish level both affect how a repainted kitchen reads. Satin is the standard finish for most cabinet doors. Matt finishes show fingerprints on frequently handled doors. We advise on colour and sheen during the site visit. We work with all major paint ranges including Farrow and Ball, Little Greene, and Dulux Trade. For wider interior painting colour guidance on a Sevenoaks property, we can advise across the whole house at the same visit.

Cabinet Painting vs Full Replacement
A full kitchen replacement in a Swanley semi typically costs between £8,000 and £18,000. A cabinet repaint using spray or brush finish costs a fraction of that. The carcasses in most 1960s and 1970s fitted kitchens are structurally sound. Replacing them provides no structural benefit. If the layout works and the structure is solid, repainting is the better value decision.
Worktops, Carcasses, and End Panels
Some clients choose to paint carcasses and end panels at the same time as the doors. We can include these in the same project. Worktops are not painted as part of a cabinet project. We focus on the door and drawer fronts, the end panels, and any exposed carcass sides visible from the room.
Here’s How It Works
1. Site visit
We visit the kitchen and check the cabinet material, existing finish, and condition. We confirm whether spray or brush application is more appropriate for your doors and note any surfaces that need additional preparation.
2. Written quote
You receive a fixed-price quote covering degreasing, priming, and the agreed number of paint coats. We specify the paint products at this stage.
3. Preparation
All doors and drawer fronts are degreased thoroughly. Grease contamination under an adhesion primer is the most common cause of early paint failure on kitchen cabinets. We take this stage seriously before any primer is applied.
4. Priming and painting
Each surface receives the correct primer for its material. Two topcoats follow. Spray work is done off the cabinet where possible. We allow full drying time between coats.
5. Rehang and final check
Doors are rehung and checked for alignment and colour consistency. Any area that does not meet the standard is addressed before we leave.

Kitchen Cabinet Painting Costs in Sevenoaks
Overview
Prices below are estimates only. Every kitchen is different. Call 01732 440998 for a precise quote.
Kitchen cabinet painting costs in the Sevenoaks district vary with the number of doors, the cabinet material, and the finish chosen.
Three things drive the cost:
- Number of doors and drawer fronts. Most standard kitchens in Swanley estates have between 10 and 18 doors. Larger open-plan kitchens in Otford and Hildenborough detacheds may have 20 or more. Each additional door adds time for masking, priming, painting, and rehanging.
- Surface condition. Laminate or vinyl-wrapped doors need more preparation than painted solid wood. Heavily contaminated doors near hobs require extra degreasing time. Damaged doors may need filling or repair before primer is applied.
- Finish type. Spray application takes longer to set up but gives a superior result. Brush finish is quicker and suits less complex door profiles. Spray jobs carry a modest premium over brush jobs of comparable scope.
Typical ranges:
- 12 to 15 cabinet doors and drawer fronts (1960s semi in Swanley, degreasing, priming, two-coat finish): £1,400 to £2,200.
- 18 to 22 doors and drawer fronts (larger kitchen in a Sevenoaks town Edwardian detached, including end panels): £2,000 to £3,200.
- Large open-plan kitchen with island (Otford or Hildenborough property, spray-finish throughout): £2,800 to £4,200.
